He designed the Reverse of the American Silver Eagle in 1986. Back then President Ronald Reagan signed off on the coin. The series ran for 35 years. So this 2 coin set is the First year of issue and the last year of issue in Proof. The 1986 Silver Eagle graded by PCGS in Proof 70 and the 2020 Silver Eagle in Proof 70 PCGS Signed by the man John Mercanti who designed the reverse of the coin. Now in 2021 the US Mint changed the design on the reverse of the American Silver Eagle. Now John Mercanti’s iconic design is retired for all of time.
